Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are an exfoliating skin rejuvenation treatment that diminishes or removes sun damage such as brown spots, age spots or freckles, wrinkles, active acne, redness, discoloration and overall uneven skin tone. Chemical peels promote the growth of new skin and collagen with an improved texture and radiance that is noticeable in just a few days. By sloughing off old skin, the body recreates new skin at a faster rate than usual; the skin actually thickens, stimulating the underlying structure to make more collagen and elastin. After assessing your skin, our aesthetician will choose the best chemical peel specifically for your skin and desired results. What is a chemical peel?

A Chemical Peel is a noninvasive, exfoliating treatment that relies on fruit acids, herbs and antioxidants to loosen the “glue” that binds dead cells to the skin’s surface. It increases the production of collagen and improves the appearance of acne, environmental damage, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. The result is smoother, tighter, more hydrated new skin, ultimately leaving you with a clearer, more youthful complexion.

How long does the treatment take?

A treatment normally takes between 30 and 45 minutes, although time varies depending upon the area being treated.

How soon will I see results?

Results can be seen about five to seven days after the first treatment, however a series of treatments is recommended in order to achieve optimal results.

Are there any potential side effects?

Minor irritation of the skin can occur, resulting in slight pinking of the skin. The skin should return to normal color within a few days. The exfoliated skin painlessly peels away, revealing newer, fresher skin.

Dermaplane

Dermaplaning is a gentle exfoliating treatment utilizing a surgical blade to remove the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the face and neck. The vellus hair can trap oil and dirt, causing the complexion to appear dull, flaky, and can even cause breakouts due to clogged pores and hair follicles. By removing the hair and outer layer of dead skin, a brighter and smoother complexion is revealed immediately post treatment.

Who is a candidate for dermaplaning?

Most skin types can be a candidate for Dermaplaning. Clients with inflamed and active acne should consult with their provider prior to treatment.

How long does it take?

Treatment time will vary depending on average takes about 30 minutes.

What results will I see?

Clients may notice healthier, brighter looking skin soon after treatment. Skin is smoother immediately post treatment. This treatment is recommended every 4 weeks for continued results. Hair will grow back at the same rate and texture as prior to treatment.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that uses a mechanical vibratory treatment to gently abrade the outer layer of skin. When this outer layer is removed, the younger, tighter, more radiant skin underneath is revealed. It is great for treating fine lines and wrinkles, large pores, acne scars, sun damage, and superficial pigmentation. Microneedling

Rejuvapen is a MicroNeedling system that encourages the production of collagen in the skin through the use of stainless steel needle cartridges. The pen that holds the needle cartridge is manipulated over the skin with multiple passes. The needles create a precise and controlled “micro-injury” that stimulates the body’s natural healing response creating new collagen and improving the appearance of the skin.

Who is a candidate for microneedling?

Rejuvapen is a treatment that can be used on all skin types and can be used to treat acne scars, stretch marks, sun damage and fine lines and wrinkles.

How long does it take?

Treatment time will vary depending on area and can range from 45 minutes to an hour.

What results will I see?

Clients may notice healthier, brighter looking skin soon after treatment. True dermal collagen remodeling occurs over time and can take 4 to 6 months post treatment. We suggest a series of 3 to 6 treatments depending on what we are looking to improve with the skin.

Is there downtime?

Healing time varies depending of the depth of the procedure. Most commonly there may be some redness that resembles mild sunburn. This may last for 2-4 days.

Does it hurt?

As with most result driven treatments, mild discomfort can be experienced during treatment. A topical numbing cream can be applied prior to treatment.

Morpheus8

What is Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 is a rejuvenating fractional skin treatment that stimulates collagen production of the underlying layers of the dermis. By targeting the deeper layers of the skin, tissues of the body can be remodeled to reveal a more youthful, tighter, smoother appearance. The Morpheus8 body treatment has the ability to go deeper into the skin to remodel unwanted fat in the body as well.

What should I expect?

Visible results on the surface of the skin may start to show as early as a week after treatment but typically the most noticeable results on the surface level will be noticeable around 3-4 weeks. These improvements will continue for up to 3 months after treatment.

True neocollagenesis and tightening of the skin will take much longer; expect about 6-12 months to see full collagen and tightening results from your treatments.

This treatment involves creating tiny channels then firing heat energy once under the skin. To help make this treatment more comfortable, we schedule clients to come in prior to actual treatment time so we can apply a topical numbing cream to the area being treated.

How does Morpheus8 work?

Morpheus works by inserting a tip with multiple needles into the face or body, then fires radio frequency energy (heat) at the end of the tip. How often should I get a Morpheus8?

As a general rule most people will require 3 treatments for best results. This may vary somewhat person to person depending on the severity of the specific concerns you are trying to treat. It is recommended to wait about 6 weeks between treatments.

How is it different from regular microneedling with a pen?

Traditional microneedling pens do not have the ability to go as deep into the skin. They also do not have the benefit of firing the radiofrequency energy deep into the dermis for that targeted, enhanced micro injury leading to enhanced collagen productivity.

What is involved in the treatment?

This in-spa treatment begins with a simple blood draw. Your blood is separated in a medical device to concentrate the PRP. The PRP is then applied to the skin as the microneedling takes place. Topical numbing makes the procedure quite tolerable. The entire process takes about one hour.

How does it work?

PRP is a component of human blood that contains a high concentration of platelets. Platelets release growth factors that stimulate collagen synthesis and reverse and repair the damage seen in aging skin on a molecular level, resulting in firmer, thicker, more supple skin. PRP is safe and effective on all skin types, gives natural-looking results, provides a longer duration of correction, and can even prevent future damage.

What results should I expect?

Improvements in skin tone and texture are noticeable within 3 weeks. Collagen regeneration requires 3 months. The treatment may be repeated in a series of 3, every 4-6 weeks for best results.

What should I expect during and after my Moxi treatment?

Moxi is performed by our medical aestheticians using our Mjoule laser by Sciton. Before your treatment, we will apply a layer of topical anesthetic to ensure a comfortable experience. The treatment is relatively quick – taking only about 10 minutes for the face. During your treatment your skin will feel warm.

Just after treatment expect your skin to feel warm, similar to a sunburn. Some clients experience redness and swelling while others find this to be minimal. By day two, clients should start to see microscopic epidermal necrotic debris (MEND), which feel like sandpaper. MEND should be allowed to slough off naturally over the course of a few days. By a week,
most clients will have lost most of their MEND, revealing their smooth, gorgeous, glowing new skin.

What is Profile?

Profile is a combination of two laser technologies, and sets a new standard for laser skin peels, allowing your physician to precisely vary the depth and the effect of your laser peel. Your treatment will be tailored to match your skin condition and desired result.

What will the Profile laser do?

Your physician will use Profile to remove thin layers of your skin’s surface, which will be replaced by younger skin growth. What aftercare will I need?

How does treatment work?

What is this procedure like?

What are neuromodulators?

Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. Botox and Dysport work beneath the surface and temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults – to help them look better.

Botox and Dysport primarily address lines in the skin known as “dynamic wrinkles,” which includes crow’s feet around the eyes and wrinkles visible while smiling, laughing or raising the eyebrows. These lines are normally less noticeable when your face is relaxed. This treatment may also be used for vertical bands in the neck as well as down-turning corners of the mouth.
Candidates generally range from the ages of 25 to 70. Each patient is unique, however, so a one-on-one consultation is recommended to determine the best and most effective treatment plan.

Following treatment, clients usually return to their jobs and normal activities immediately. It is recommended, however, that you avoid exercise, heavy lifting and massaging the injected area for one to two days.

What should I expect?

Our providers inject a small amount of Botox or Dysport with a fine needle into the targeted areas. The amount of liquid which enters the skin is very small, and clients experience only minimal discomfort in the form of a slight pinch. No anesthetic is necessary, and you can continue with your everyday activities immediately following the procedure. Clients will usually start to see the effects three to fourteen days following the injection.

Botox and Dysport are sold by the unit. The number of units required to treat each area varies from client to client. It is best to come in for a complimentary consultation to find out if you’re a good candidate and how many units you will need to achieve optimal results.

What are the benefits of neuromodulators?

How do neuromodulators work?

Neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport block signals from the nerves to the muscles. Since the injected muscles can no longer contract, the area relaxes and softens.

How often should I get neuromodulators?

Results normally last for three to four months. After three to four months, the effects begin to wear off and wrinkles reappear, though often not as deep or visible as they were prior to treatment. In order to sustain smooth skin and a youthful look, three to four injections yearly are usually required. By returning for repeat treatments, fewer injections may be required in the future to maintain young-looking skin.

BotoxⓇ For Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating or perspiration that can occur in the armpits. This embarrassing condition can now be treated by the physicians at Refine MD with BOTOX®. When deodorant or topical agents no longer work, BOTOX® injections can effectively be used to reduce excess sweating. Patients typically notice significant reduction in sweating within four weeks of their first treatment.

BOTOX® is FDA-approved for excessive underarm sweating. The treatment helps control the condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the excessive sweating stops.

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that causes excessive perspiration – more than the human body’s physiological needs. Every day, our body perspires to maintain constant internal body temperature. When will I notice the difference, and how long will it last?

There are 2 different types of PDO threads and techniques:

Barbed Threads: These threads are used for some individuals depending on the desired outcome. These threads have tiny barbs on the entire thread length to gather tissue to lift the cheeks and sagging skin where the threads are placed. This technique produces a more dramatic and immediate result. The skin will then build new collagen, which will secure the lift and give the lift a longer-lasting result.

Smooth Threads: These threads are smaller than the barbed sutures and are smooth (no barbs on the thread). These threads are placed under the skin vertically and horizontally to create a “mesh”. What is Profile?

Profile is an infrared laser that can selectively target microstructures such as hair follicles. What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal offers patients a safe, fast, and effective alternative for dealing with unwanted hair. Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by its target, i.e., unwanted blood vessels, birthmarks, or in this case, hair. The laser used in hair removal targets the melanin (color) in the hair follicle, damaging the follicle and removing the hair.

Can tanned skin be treated?

Tanned skin can be treated safely, but always inform your physician if you have been tanning or exposed to the sun within the last three weeks. (S)he will adjust your treatment regimen accordingly to give you the safest, most effective experience.

How does it work?

The Profile laser selectively targets your hair follicles and heats them with infra-red energy. Unlike other processes, the laser beam treats many hairs at once, making treatment of large areas practical. Is there a risk of complications?

Is treatment permanent?

On average, each laser treatment will be associated with some permanent hair loss. So in most cases, hair removal can only be achieved after several treatments. The number of treatments will depend on each patient’s individual response to laser surgery, and the amount of hair to be removed. Remember that the goal may not be total hair removal. Many patients are happy with a reasonable degree of hair reduction. Also remember that the hair that remains is often lighter in color and thinner than the original hair prior to laser surgery. As with other treatments for unwanted hair, there is no guarantee that laser hair removal treatment will be permanent.

Does treatment hurt? What can I expect with the procedure?

Most patients describe laser hair removal as feeling “prickly,” or like the light snap of a rubber band against the skin. Afterward, it might feel like a bad sunburn. Each patient has his or her own level of skin sensitivity and pain threshold. Different areas of the body are also more sensitive than others.

On the day of your treatment, plan on wearing clothing that will allow easy access to the treated area. You may not need any type of anesthesia for your treatments. Laser hair removal works best when the hair is 1 to 2 millimeters in length. No specific care is needed after the treatment.

What will I look like immediately afterwards?

Generally, some redness will remain for approximately five to seven days. For some patients recovery time will be less while other patients will have prolonged redness.

Will my insurance cover treatment?

Unwanted hair is usually a cosmetic issue, so in most cases you should expect to pay for treatment. In the rare instances where treatment is considered medically-necessary, insurance may cover the cost of treatment. It’s best to speak to your doctor and your insurance company to clarify this question.

What treatments are available?

Waxing, shaving, and the use of depilatory creams are well-established methods for hair removal, although temporary. Electrolysis is the traditional tried and tested method for permanent hair removal but is often very time-consuming and inefficient. Can all skin colors be treated?

Yes, all skin types I through VI can be treated. Skin Type I is very fair, always burns, and never tans (usually blonde hair and blue eyes). Skin Type VI never burns (black skin, black hair).

What happens during hair removal treatment?

Your physician will discuss the treatment with you and decide if you need a topical anesthetic cream. The area of your skin that is to be treated will be scanned with laser light from the Profile system. Treatment time will depend upon the area to be treated. A system for cooling your skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the follicles and should ensure a comfortable treatment. However, since the sensation varies from individual to individual, topical anesthesia can be provided. Let your physician know if you are very sensitive.

What should I expect after treatment?

Some redness and slight swelling may be present in the area that has been treated; however, this should subside within a few hours. If any prolonged redness or swelling occurs, then consult your physician.

Keep the area clean.

Use at least SPF 15 sunscreen when outdoors.

Can pseudofolliculitis be treated?

Yes. Pseudofolliculitis is a type of chronic acne disorder caused by ingrown coarse or curly hairs. This disorder affects darker skin types and the infrared energy, which is delivered by Profile. This is the preferred method of treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

You may need to be treated 6 times at approximately 6-week intervals. There are three phases of hair growth – anagen, catagen, and telogen. Only hairs in the active growth, anagen, can be successfully treated.

How long will it take my skin to heal?

Normally, the skin looks red and swollen for up to 48 hours, possibly longer. Some patients will be offered to have a small area tested before undergoing full treatment. This gives them an idea of how the treatment will feel and the length of time it will take to obtain the desired result. Occasionally, patients can develop a blistering reaction. If this happens, call your treating physician and ask for specific post-laser treatment options.

How does laser vein treatment work?

Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that passes through the skin and is preferentially absorbed by its target, which can be unwanted hair, birthmark, tattoo, or in this case, the hemoglobin (the red portion of blood) in the unwanted vessels. The heat from the laser causes the vein to break up and disappear. There are several lasers available that work remarkably well in treating unwanted veins.

How soon will I see results? Are there any side effects?

Because laser vein treatment works by causing the unwanted vein to break up and dissolve, resolution of the unwanted vein will take place over the course of several weeks. The most common side effect is bruising, or purpura, around the treated area. This will resolve within days of the treatment and occurs only with some lasers used. What is the Profile vascular laser?

What should I expect after treatment?

Some temporary redness may be present in the area that has been treated, however, this should subside within a few hours. Your skin will have a pink or red color that will resolve over time. You will need to avoid direct sun exposure or use a sun block of at least SPF 15 when outdoors.

What will happen during the procedure?

Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. Profile’s laser beam will be delivered to the area of your skin being treated. You may briefly feel a warm or hot sensation as the laser pulses are preferentially absorbed in the unwanted vessels, heating and destroying them. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated.

Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution directly into the vein. The solution is injected through a very fine needle directly into the vein. At this point, you may experience mild discomfort and cramping for one to two minutes, especially when larger veins are injected. The procedure itself takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes.

What Should I Expect During Treatment?
